Hidden Gems of the South Pacific
Looking for some tropical seclusion? The South Pacific has got you covered with these three secret hideaways.
Rarotonga, Cook Islands
I love, love, love Rarotonga. I mean true love. Why share your sandy spot with a million strangers when you can have Rarotonga's beaches mostly to yourselves? The serenity is real, folks. Imagine you and your partner lounging on pristine sands, snorkeling in crystal-clear waters (protected by an outer reef), exploring lush rainforests, and waving to locals without bumping into hordes of tourists. Rarotonga is where you can truly disconnect and focus on each other—no distractions, just paradise.
When to visit Rarotonga: Dry/Winter season: April to November ~ Wet/Summer season: December to March. Peak tourist season: June to September.
Vanuatu
It’s like Fiji’s cooler cousin who doesn’t brag about its beaches (but probably should). Here, you can enjoy natural beauty, local culture, and the peace and quiet of a place most people have never even heard of. Dive into blue holes, hike up volcanoes, or simply relax in a hammock with a good book.
The local villages offer a rich cultural experience, where you can learn about traditional practices and maybe even pick up a few island survival tips. Plus, there’s something incredibly romantic about being in a place that feels like your own secret discovery.
When to visit Vanuatu: Vanuatu’s northern islands are hot with rain periods all year round, while the central and southern islands have their hot and rainy season from December to March, and the cooler and drier season is from May to October (the most popular time to visit).
Niue
If you’ve ever wanted to go somewhere almost no one else has been and claim a beach as your own, Niue might just let you live out that fantasy. With crystal-clear waters and serene landscapes, it’s a little-known paradise perfect for honeymooners. Explore limestone caves, swim with dolphins, or take a leisurely bike ride around the island. Niue is all about those off-the-beaten-path experiences that make your honeymoon unforgettable.
When to visit Niue: Niue has two distinct seasons: the dry season (May to October) and the wet season (November to April). The best time to whale-watch is between July and September.

Ljubljana, Slovenia
Not only is it fun to say (try it), but this charming city boasts fairy-tale architecture and a relaxed vibe that will have you and your new spouse falling in love all over again. The Ljubljanica River snakes through the city, offering scenic boat rides, and let's not forget the castle perched on a hill for those dramatic honeymoon photos. It really is a surprising gem and one of my favorite places to visit in Europe. I think it’s seriously underrated and is the perfect city for a romantic escape or honeymoon.
When to visit Ljubljana: Ljubljana is a top destination to visit all year round. June, July and August are the warmest months and the most popular tourist season. January is the coldest month with periodic rain.
Tbilisi, Georgia
This isn't your typical honeymoon postcard scene, but with its quirky charm, vibrant arts scene, and delicious wine, Tbilisi might be your perfect getaway. Imagine walking through streets filled with both crumbling Soviet-era buildings and modern cafes, all while sipping on some of the best wine you'll ever taste. Trust me; it's a vibe.
And there’s so much to see and do that doesn’t cost the earth, like this Kakheti Wine Region tour run by local guides, and this Mtskheta, Jvari, Gori, and Uplistsikhe day tour will take you on an epic journey through ancient sites, a UNESCO heritage monastery, and war memorabilia.
When to visit Tbilisi: The best months for good weather are May, June, July, August, September, and October. January is the coldest month, while May is the rainiest month. Peak tourist season is June, July and August.
Riga, Latvia
For those who think "Europe" and immediately picture romantic streets and history oozing out of every corner, Riga is your match. Plus, your friends will have no clue where you are, adding an air of mystery to your Instagram stories. Medieval old town? Check. Art Nouveau architecture? Double-check. A skyline view from St. Peter’s Church? Oh yes. And the local food scene will keep your taste buds out of trouble.
