7 Beaches I Love in Malta (Swipe For Your Vacay)
Written by Sam Lee, 2025.
Boasting 300 sunny days per year and more than 30 beaches, you can't go wrong with a beach day in Malta.
There are beaches for everyone in Malta: Some have rocky shorelines, while others boast soft, sandy shores. Some may be packed with sun-seekers, while others offer tranquil and secluded spots.
Here are my seven top beaches in Malta:
01—
Ramla Bay
Located on Gozo (Malta's lesser-known sister island), Ramla Bay is a picturesque stretch of coastline that boasts crystal-clear waters and golden sands.
Whether taking a dip in the bay or dozing off under an umbrella, it's a peaceful escape. Summer evenings are perfect for enjoying a picnic dinner on the shore or at nearby tables.
The distinctive red sand of Ramla Beach is perfect for collecting seashells, pebbles, and sea glass. It’s a blue-flag beach, so lifeguards are on duty during summer. Be warned that the sea can get a little rough on really windy days.
During the quieter winter months, Ramla Beach is almost deserted and offers the perfect opportunity for a tranquil sunrise stroll.

02—
Xwejni Bay Beach
This beautiful beach is located in the picturesque Xwejni Bay on the northern coast of Gozo. It boasts sparkling blue waters and is a popular destination for locals and tourists.
The calm waters are perfect for a refreshing swim or snorkeling adventure (great for families with kids). The beach has a low pier, ideal for launching a kayak and exploring the coastline. You can rent beds and umbrellas on the beach.
Remember to wear water shoes to avoid slipping on the rocky shore. And if you're feeling hungry, head across the street to Saltside restaurant and indulge in their mouthwatering pulled pork sandwich.
03—
Hondoq Bay
On the southeastern coast of Gozo, Hondoq Bay is a stunning natural inlet with crystal-clear waters and picturesque views. Lined with small pebbles, the beach is the perfect place to chill under an umbrella, swim, or snorkel. Or go out on a jet ski or boat. There is also a deep swimming hole to enjoy.
Arrive early and snag the best lounge chairs (near the seawall is good). When you're hungry, head to the kiosk nearby. The wine selection is good, and locals recommend the bruschetta.
04—
Ghajn Tuffieha Bay
Ghajn Tuffieha is a beautiful natural bay on Malta's northwestern coast, and it is relatively unknown. The stunning cliffs provide a picturesque backdrop, while the sparkling blue waters are perfect for both swimming and snorkeling.
The descent to the beach is a bit of an effort -- but it's worth it. Consider renting a lounge and umbrella when you arrive. For lunch, stroll down the beach to Grill and Chill.
05—
Armier Bay
Found in the northernmost point of Malta, Armier is stunning. Its sandy shores are perfect for a day in the sun, surrounded by crystal-clear waters.
The beach's seclusion makes it less busy than other beaches on the island, which is a big plus for me!
It boasts views of Comino (a sister island) and Gozo and top-notch opportunities for swimming, sunbathing, and snorkeling. It also boasts some wicked sunsets.
06—
Dahlet Qorrot Beach
The secluded ambiance of this small, pebbly bay in Gozo is simply lovely. Its limestone cliffs are dotted with charming boat houses, each with a vibrant door.
You'll have this beach to yourself during winter. You'll share the beach in summer, but it's never too crowded. Grab a delicious (and giant) hamburger at the bar nearby. If you've got excellent eyesight and it's a clear day, you'll be able to see Sicily, 60 miles away.
07—
Mellieha Beach
Last but not least is Mellieha Beach. A short winding road takes you from the village to the beach, boasting sensational views as you descend the slope.
If I had to describe Mellieha Beach in one word, I would say...vibrant. This is where you go if you want a buzzy beach scene with restaurants, bars, and cafés.
It can get packed with people during summer, but the off-season is much more serene. The views are spectacular too.
