So, when is the best time to visit Paris? In this article, I’ll break down each season—highlighting things to do, vibrant festivals, and local traditions. By the end, you’ll know the perfect month or season for your Parisian escape. Let’s dive in!
01—
Spring in Paris
(March-May)
Spring is a knockout time to hit up Paris. As the winter chill says its goodbyes, flowers start popping up all over gardens and parks. Temperatures climb, averaging between 50°F and 68°F (10°C to 20°C).
The lighting is just right for a leisurely walk along the Seine or checking out charming spots like Montmartre. The city is brimming with outdoor markets packed with fresh produce and local goodies.
Visiting Paris in March
March is a great month to visit Paris. The parks and gardens are greening up, and festivals kick-start in earnest. The weather is still playing hard to get (pack that rain gear), but it’s warming up.
One highlight is the Foire de Printemps (usually at the end of March), a lively spring fair loaded with local crafts, food stalls, and entertainment for everyone. It’s a chance to taste French treats while browsing unique handmade goodies.
Visiting Paris in April
April is officially “Springtime” in Paris. This month, the city's "charm of spring" hits its peak, with chestnut trees blossoming and cafe terraces coming into their own.
April usually hosts Easter in Paris, where patisseries are famous for their exquisite chocolate creations—perfect for indulging your sweet tooth!
A few key events in April include:
Paris Beer Festival
Livre Paris
Foire du Trône
Marathon International de Paris
Paris Book Fair
Visiting Paris in May
May is one of the best months for warm and sunny weather, but international crowds start to flood the city, so it’s getting busy.
May has more public holidays than any other month in France and is a prime time for domestic travel. There may be widespread closures, especially on May Day (May 1).
Among the key events are:
La Nuit Européenne des Musées
Taste Paris
French Open
Paris Café Festival

Summer in Paris
(June-Aug)
Summer can get pretty toasty in Paris, with highs often hitting between 27-30°C (77-86°F). It’s a fantastic time to visit — expect long, sun-soaked days and lively outdoor events, but brace yourself for the crowds.
Cafés spill onto sidewalks, and festivals pack the summer calendar, from Parc de la Villette music events to outdoor movie screenings at Place de la République.
Shopping on Rue de Rivoli is also a must (fashionistas, rejoice — the summer sales are epic).
Head to the Seine River banks for vibrant picnics. The ambiance is infectious as street performers bring joy to every corner.
Visiting Paris in June
Paris is buzzing in June. The vibe? It’s electric yet still reasonably chill in some areas; Parisians sip café au lait at sidewalk bistros while tourists explore the city, soaking in art exhibitions, open-air markets, and outdoor events (many free).
Must-see events in June include:
Festival de St-Denis
We Love Green
Fête de la Musique,
Marche des Fiertés (Pride)
La Goutte d'Or en Fête
Portes Ouvertes des Ateliers d'Artists de Belleville.
Visiting Paris in July
Paris transforms into a sea of "beaches" in July, complete with sunbeds, umbrellas, misting stations, lounge chairs, and palm trees lining the banks of the Seine. Swimming pools buzz with activity, and summer sales draw crowds as the heat cranks up.
As twilight sets in, you'll find yourself drawn to rooftop bars offering panoramic views over Paris. Night markets come alive with tantalizing aromas — think fresh crepes and artisanal cheeses.
Some key events in Paris in July:
Paris Jazz Festival
Bals des Pompiers
Paris Plages
Tour de France
Plus, don’t miss the stunning fireworks display on Bastille Day on July 14. They’re seriously over the top but in a good way :)
Visiting Paris in August
Parisians flee in August, but international tourists flood the streets. Finding a good bistro meal can be tricky; many are closed, and you’ll see "Fermé pour les vacances” signs everywhere.
However, it’s a great time to cycle around the city, with much less street traffic. The city streets, away from the main tourist areas, slip into a quiet summer lull.
The beach theme “Paris Plage” along the Seine continues into August, which is lovely on summer nights.
Key events include:
Classique au Vert
Rock en Seine
Silhouette
Plus, the Paris Jazz Festival program continues into August.

Autumn (Fall) in Paris
(Sept-Nov)
Autumn is a fantastic time to visit Paris. The city's charm gets a major upgrade with the crisp air and golden-hued foliage (50-68°F).
As summer tourists scatter, museums like the Louvre and Musée d'Orsay become less crowded. You can wander through iconic neighborhoods like Montmartre or Le Marais with a sense of tranquility that's as rare as a unicorn in peak season.
Visiting Paris in September
September is one of the best months to visit Paris. Parisians are back to work and school after their summer break, and cultural life is buzzing like a beehive.
Temperatures are perfect for park strolls and exploring iconic sites with fewer crowds. Take advantage of the longer daylight hours by enjoying evening walks through beautifully lit boulevards or visiting landmarks just before sunset for stunning views.
The weather is often at its best, and festivals pop up like mushrooms after rain. Highlights include:
Jazz à la Villette
Festival d'Automne
Techno Parade
Journées Européennes du Patrimoine
Journée Sans Voiture
Chatou Foire
Visiting Paris in October
If art is your jam, October is the month to be in Paris. Dive into stunning exhibitions during Paris Art Month. Galleries and museums are buzzing with creativity.

A few notable events in Paris during October:
Fête des Vendanges de Montmartre
Foire Internationale d'Art Contemporain
Salon du Chocolat
Visiting Paris in November
By November, a crisp chill sets in, perfect for cozying up at charming cafés. Sip hot chocolate while people-watching or indulge in seasonal pastries at local patisseries.
With dark, chilly days and long, cold nights, Parisians retreat indoors: the opera and ballet seasons are in full swing, and there are plenty of cozy bars and bistros around.
A few notable events in Paris during November are:
Paris Pitchfork Music Festival
Illuminations de Noël
Beaujolais Nouveau

Winter in Paris
(Dec-Feb)
Winter can be a bit nippy, with temperatures averaging from 30°F to 45°F. But don’t let the cold scare you off; cozy cafés offer warmth, and holiday lights twinkle throughout the city streets. Winter is a good time to visit Paris if you don’t mind the weather because it's quieter and prices are lower.
Visiting Paris in December
December in Paris glows with holiday cheer. Ice-skating rinks pop up all over, including the rooftop of Galeries Lafayette, even if the weather is mostly rainy and chilly (snow is a rare guest).
Christmas trees and stunningly decorated shop windows light up the city, making it a magical time.
Christmas markets line the streets, offering artisanal crafts and delicious seasonal treats. Stroll down the Champs-Élysées to witness one of the most breathtaking holiday displays.
Visiting Paris in January
January is all about shopping and culture.
Paris might not be the most festive in the first month of the year, but the winter sales definitely brighten the mood. The city also offers plenty of theater and dance.
Key events include New Year's Eve celebrations, Commemorative Mass for Louis XVI, and Chinese New Year.
Museums are less crowded this time of year, allowing for a serene exploration. The Louvre or Musée d'Orsay becomes your quiet retreat and a completely different experience than visiting during the summer.
Visiting Paris in February
February boasts several local events and celebrations. Valentine's Day fills cafés with love-themed décor. For the big day, most restaurants offer special menus to attract couples. The weather will be chilly (and probably rainy), but all the love in the air will warm your heart.

That’s a wrap!
Paris offers a unique experience each season. Whether you're touring the city's museums, seeing live music, or sipping coffee at a charming café, there's always something fun to do.
My preferred months? April, May, September, and October for the lovely weather and the opportunity to enjoy various activities around Paris. Plus, these months tend to be cheaper than peak tourist season.
A quick visit in December is also super fun for the brisk air and the beautiful Christmas markets and lights — truly dazzling! I hope this article helps you plan an unforgettable trip to Paris.
Au revoir!
